Superstar sprinter Black Caviar is likely to start at the longest odds she’s been on Australian soil in two years when she contests Saturday’s TJ Smith Stakes at Royal Randwick.
Sportingbet Australia has installed Black Caviar as a $1.12 favourite to win her 25th successive race. The last time she started at odds as large as those in Australia was when she won the BTC Cup at Doomben in May 2011 as a $1.14 chance.
“Royal Ascot aside, this is her toughest test in years and she might just be vulnerable,” Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said.
“She won’t have experienced this amount of pressure up front for years and the inside barriers have a terrible record in this race,” Sullivan said.
“I’m expecting plenty of six figure and possibly even seven figure bets on her to win and I’m more than happy to let the punters on,” Sullivan said.
Bel Sprinter is an $8 second favourite with Sportingbet and likely to be the first horse to start at single figure odds to beat Black Caviar in Australia since Hay List in the 2011 BTC Cup at Doomben.
