Black Caviar could run in William Reid Stakes after Lightning Stakes 2013

If Black Caviar has another run in Melbourne after Saturday’s Lightning Stakes, the Moonee Valley Racing Club will be ready for her.

Should the champion mare have another start in Melbourne before her retirement it would almost certainly be in the Group One William Reid Stakesat the Valley on the night of March 22.

And if her connections decide to go down that path, Moonee Valley is proposing to start the meeting at 5.45pm in a bid to make it more convenient for as many fans as possible to farewell the mare.

The club will also bring forward nomination and acceptance times for the William Reid to add to the build-up.

If Black Caviar accepts, the William Reid will be run as the final race on the program at 9.45pm, with an hour between it and the second last.

“If Black Caviar was to contest the William Reid Stakes, the Club would expect a capacity crowd to witness one of the historic moments in Australian racing,” said Moonee Valley chief executive Michael Browell.
