Big drop in class for Club Tropicana at Sandown

Matthew Ellerton & Simon Zahra-trained Club Tropicana took on the likes of Snitty Kitty at Caulfield just under a year ago, and is now dropping back to benchmark 70 class at Sandown following an honest display at Flemington last time out behind Hear The Chant and Fragonard.

The Smart Missile mare will be hoping to recapture her best form, highlighted by consecutive wins at Sale and Sandown in November last year. Sneaking a place in similar grade at the Valley just 2 starts back, Club Tropicana looks to be well placed here over 1000m with an imposing record of 6 starts for 4 places over the distance, including 2 wins.

The 4-year-old mare looks extremely hard to beat going off her last run in particular, clocking explosive closing splits of 10.82, 10.70 and 10.80, hitting a top speed of 67.29 kp/h during her run at Flemington.

Even more impressive for the Ellerton & Zahra runner was her win at this track and distance last year, running the trip in 0:56.83 to overcome the smart Manolo Blahniq and Sha Tin winner Call Me Handsome. Club Tropicana was absolutely electric throughout, hitting a top speed of 73.17 kp/h on her way to recording a 9.84 split between the 400 and 200m mark.

Club Tropicana has drawn barrier 4 with Chris Symons to ride and is a current $5.00 shot with Sportsbet.com.au, offering extraordinary value of $1.85 to place in a field of 8.
