In the news:

Damian Browne, the jockey who once turned down the Golden Rose-winning ride on the Peter Snowden-trained Epaulette, has answered an SOS from the trainer to partner boom filly Earthquake at Caulfield.

Darley’s No.1 rider Kerrin McEvoy put his injured knee to the test on Tuesday morning but later ruled himself out of Saturday’s Blue Diamond Preludes after riding in Rosehill barrier trials.

Earthquake steps out in the Blue Diamond Prelude for fillies at Caulfield with Brisbane-based Browne accepting the ride.

Browne will also ride the Snowden-trained Mohave in the colts and geldings Blue Diamond Prelude.

Damien Oliver had been on standby to ride Earthquake but when it appeared McEvoy would be fine Oliver accepted another ride in the race late on Monday.

“Damian has ridden for me in the past and I’ve had good luck with him. He’s a good rider so I have no problem putting him on,” Snowden said.

McEvoy galloped Earthquake and Mohave in early morning workouts at Flemington on Tuesday before flying to Sydney to ride star filly Guelph at the Rosehill trials.

Earthquake delighted Darley’s Melbourne foreman Paul Snowden in her gallop with stablemate Orujo.

“It was a strong piece of work and the best part about it was she pulled up good in herself,” he said.

“And it was the same thing as what she always does, it just looks effortless the way she works.”

He said the filly, who is expected to start a short-priced favourite on Saturday, had progressed nicely from her second in a Cranbourne trial last Thursday when she was a bit fresh early in the trial.
