Emerging star 4YO Bel Sprinter has been scratched from today’s $1 million Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) after being found to be lame by trainer Jason Warren this morning.
“Unfortunately Bel Sprinter has trotted up a little sore today and has been scratched from the Newmarket Handicap,” Jason Warren tweeted.
Bel Sprinter had injured himself on Sunday but was cleared to run during the week after Racing Victoria stewards passed him fit to run Tuesday morning.
The scratching is a shame for connections as the son of Bel Esprit got into the weights very well this year, Bel Sprinter joins other high profile casualty Lucas Cranach who was scratched from the Australian Cup Thursday night with a leg injury.
