Jockey Joe Azzopardi is eagerly anticipating his return partnership with promising three-year-old Snow God, confident the gelding has untapped potential heading into his second campaign.
Having partnered the Playing God gelding in his debut preparation, Azzopardi believes Snow God is poised for a strong return when he lines up at Bunbury this Saturday.
Snow God was impressive on debut in January, starting a clear favourite following eye-catching trials and delivering a determined win after running down Niccimota in the closing stages.
Although he finished fourth at his next outing behind Want A Winner, the gelding was found to have an elevated heart rate and was immediately spelled.
Set to resume in the Tabtouch Past The Post Handicap (1000m), Snow God has been pleasing in his work, and Azzopardi expects a bold performance despite a tricky gate.
“He galloped really well Tuesday morning,” Azzopardi told Tabradio. “The draw makes it tough, but with a bit of luck, I think he’ll be very hard to beat off what he’s shown at home.”
“He’s still learning, but he’s got a huge engine. I’ve got a lot of faith in him and think he’ll be winning some nice races soon.”
Snow God currently sits at $4.80 with Tabtouch, second in the market behind Terratif at $2.90.
Azzopardi is also upbeat about the chances of Amazing Cheat in the Swan Draught Handicap (2231m), a mare who has won two of her last three starts and stretches out beyond 1800m for the first time.
“She’s incredibly honest,” he said. “She gives her all every time, and she’s done everything right to suggest she’ll stay the trip.”
“With a soft draw and a light weight, she gets every chance on Saturday.”
Amazing Cheat is priced at $5.50, behind Dun With The Blues ($3.10) and Snazzler ($4.60) in early markets.
Meanwhile, Azzopardi believes Planet Cash can produce an improved effort in the Nixon Electrical Handicap (1400m).
