Ayrton and Globe set for showdown in Group 3 Victoria Handicap

The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr stable will field two runners in the Group 3 Victoria Handicap (1400m) at Caulfield this Saturday: resuming Globe and comeback galloper Ayrton.

Ayrton, last year’s winner, is fresh from a 12-month break, while Globe returns after last racing in December’s Listed Ballarat Cup (2000m). Both horses had a gallop at Sandown, with Globe benefiting most from the session alongside Ayrton.

Ayrton’s March 8 return in the Group 3 Shaftesbury Avenue Handicap (1400m) ended in a fading ninth. Trainer Kent Jnr noted Ayrton, who is fitter now, “loves Caulfield” and is “much more forward” with a month between runs.

Globe, a known “free sweater,” also had a productive hit-out and is primed for the race. Kent Jnr sees Saturday as an ideal starting point for Globe’s campaign, with potential plans to head north after the race.

Ayrton’s preference for dry tracks rules out a Sydney campaign.
