Undefeated mare Autumn Glow will have a tune-up barrier trial at Randwick as she gears up for her assault on the Golden Eagle, with trainer Chris Waller following a proven formula that worked to perfection with former stable star Kolding.
Back in 2019, Kolding famously completed the Epsom Handicap–Golden Eagle double without racing between the two features, and Waller is looking to repeat that same preparation with Autumn Glow — who already holds the first leg after her emphatic Epsom triumph earlier this month.
“Kolding won both and didn’t race in between so it’s a very similar path to that,” Waller’s assistant trainer Charlie Duckworth said.
“I think we will put in a nomination for the Empire Rose Stakes as well as the Golden Eagle, but the preference is the Golden Eagle.
“She has ticked off the Group One item now so we’re expecting a pleasing trial on Monday.”
Known for his meticulous planning and ability to replicate successful blueprints, Waller is once again sticking to a tried-and-true path with Autumn Glow — and so far, it’s working perfectly. The unbeaten mare has now recorded seven wins from as many starts, including her maiden Group 1 victory in the Epsom Handicap on October 4.
Duckworth confirmed she has continued to thrive in the weeks since. “She galloped on Thursday on the course proper and she hasn’t missed a beat,” he said. “She has come through the Epsom in great order so it’s full steam ahead for the trial.”
Autumn Glow is set to contest the second heat over 1050m at Randwick on Monday, with Epsom Handicap runner-up Fully Lit also entered for the same trial.
She currently sits as the $2.50 favourite for the Golden Eagle (1500m) on November 1, ahead of Japanese contender Panja Tower at $4.50.
