News:

Capacity fields have been declared for three of the four feature races on days two and three of the Warrnambool carnival.

Acceptances were taken on Monday for the Galleywood Hurdle and Wangoom Handicap to be run on Wednesday and the Grand Annual Steeplechase and Warrnambool Cup on Thursday.

There are only six acceptors in the Galleywood while a full field of 16, plus two emergencies, has been declared for the Wangoom.

Last year’s Wangoom winner Ulmann, trained by Darren Weir, is back to defend his title, but this year rises from 56kg to 60kg.

Weir, who trained a record 14 winners at last year’s three-day carnival, will also be represented by Stellar Collision, Ozi Choice and Handsome Thief in the 1200m-sprint.

Chasing a fifth Warrnambool Cup in succession on Thursday, Weir has Master Of Arts, Gallic Chieftain, Kiwia and Yogi among the 18 acceptances which include two emergencies.

Master Of Arts is chasing a second Cup win having won the race in 2016.

Local hopes for the Cup rest with Dodging Bullets and Straight Jacket, for Symon Wilde, Swacadelic (Aaron Purcell), Granddukeoftuscany (Matthew Williams), Romanesque (Jarrod McLean) and Unrealistic (Geoff Withers).

A field of 13, including one emergency, has been declared for the Grand Annual (5500m), Australia’s longest race.

Of the 13, Zed Em, Gold Medals, I’ll’ava’alf, Monarch Chimes, Now And Zen, Mannertone, John Monash and King Of The Forest, are all down to run in Tuesday’s Brierly Steeplechase.
