Australasian Oaks at Morphettville Tips, Race Previews and Selections – 29/4/2023

Group 1 racing returns to Adelaide on Saturday and a wide-open edition of the Australasian Oaks headlines the program.

Won by the plenty of star fillies since its 1982 inception, the Australasian Oaks is almost always an open betting affair and when final markets went up on Wednesday, we were faced with $6 the field.

You can find my complete 2023 Australasian Oaks Tips below.

Suggested Bets

  • 3 Units straight out #2 Arts

Australasian Oaks – Winner

Arts has enjoyed a meteoric rise to prominence this time in and wouldn’t look out of place in the Australasian Oaks winner’s stall.

The Xtravagant filly has made just four appearances at the races to date, but recorded a dominant win in the Adrian Knox Stakes to announce herself to the Australian racing fraternity.

She was last seen finishing fifth in the Australian Oaks on Day 1 of The Championships, but this does look a weaker race and I’m keen to see her back to the 2000m.

Suggested Bet: No. 2 Arts

Australasian Oaks – 2nd

Fillies from every corner of the country make up the 2023 Australasian Oaks field, and She’s Fit is bidding to become the first West Australian winner since Delicacy in 2015.

She’s Fit has been a strong and consistent performer in WA’s best three-year-old races this time in, and recorded dominant wins in both the Natasha Stakes and the WA Oaks before filling the minors in the WA Derby last time out.

She’s in peak order and will need luck from the wide draw, but I like the unique form line, and she does look up to winning something like this.

Suggested Bet: No. 1 She’s Fit

Australasian Oaks – 3rd

I thought that Killiako looked a bit of value at Australasian Oaks odds of $17 (at publish).

Killiako needed her first two runs back this time to tune up, but she was taken forward and produced a tough on-pace performance to win in BM68 company over a mile here a couple of weeks ago.

This is a pretty substantial rise in class, but she’s certainly worthy of her position in the Australasian Oaks field, and Benny Allen can employ similar on-speed tactics from the rails draw and be in it for a long way.

Suggested Bet: No. 9 Killiako

Australasian Oaks – 4th

Ciaron Maher & David Eustace have sent Jennilala to Morphettville to contest the Australasian Oaks, and I am confident that she too can fight out the finish.

Jennilala has been a strong and consistent performer through her four starts back from a spell, peaking with an eye-catching win in the Group 3 Auraria Stakes here, last time out.

She’s proven at the course and does look to be in peak fitness, and for those reasons, I can’t find a reason why she won’t be in the finish again.

Suggested Bet: No. 3 Jennilala
