Champion Perth jockey William Pike has set a premiership record and wants to build on his 118 wins with 10 meetings left this season.
Pike rode a treble at Belmont on Saturday to eclipse the previous standard of 116-1/2 set by 12-time premier Perth rider Paul Harvey.
Harvey’s successor is heading towards an eighth title with Lucy Warwick second on 56.
Pike is also on track to be Australia’s leading jockey ahead of Victorian Dean Yendall, Queensland apprentice James Orman and Brenton Avdulla from NSW.
“I set a goal of 100 at the beginning of the year and to get that I was pretty happy,” Pike told RWWA.
“As I was coming through Paul Harvey was the man and he is still the man in my eyes.
“I just feel so good to be able to do something along the lines of what he has done.
“I have my beautiful family and kids behind me, but I have to do it again next year.”
Pike’s biggest win during the season was the Group One Kingston Town Stakes at Ascot in December for trainer Grant Williams.
