WIN OF THE DAY
A thrilling conclusion to the Group 3 Roma Cup (1100m) saw the race decided in the stewards’ room after a dramatic dead heat. The Boss Lady was officially declared the winner, with Jokers Grin demoted to second following a successful protest. With only two Quokka slots remaining, Jokers Grin has already secured one, and The Boss Lady now looks more than worthy of a spot.
TRAINERS
Michael Lane has been a vocal supporter of The Boss Lady, and her impressive first-up win in the Roma Cup only strengthens her case for a Quokka berth. It was a memorable day for the Lane family, with his son Damian guiding Treasure The Moment to Group 1 glory in the Australian Oaks (2400m) at Randwick.
Dan and Ben Pearce are eyeing a second Karrakatta Plate (1200m) after Talkanco delivered a gritty performance to hold off the late-charging Yes Queen in the Gimcrack Stakes (1100m). Earlier on the card, their all-female owned filly Sinful Living showed determination to lead all the way under top weight.
Castle Road turned the Perth Stakes into a runaway win, putting 3.5 lengths on his rivals with an all-the-way display under Craig Staples. Trainer Paul Jordan, already a two-time winner of the race, has never taken out the Karrakatta—but Castle Road’s dominant run could be the one to change that.
JOCKEY
Brad Parnham was in the thick of the action, landing two thrilling victories aboard Talkanco and The Boss Lady in successive feature races.
HORSES TO FOLLOW
Yes Queen was outstanding in defeat, flashing home from the back. She remains the leading contender for the Karrakatta Plate.
Pond Master impressed in his return, launching down the outside after being blocked at the top of the straight.
Sixinch Heels continued her unbeaten campaign with a powerful last-to-first win carrying 59kg. The Simon Miller-trained mare is now four from four this prep and continues to impress.
Be Bardot and William Pike found redemption with a clear run out wide. The mare stormed down the outside to win with authority, bouncing back from a luckless previous outing.
Audio Boy ran a solid race on return, finishing just behind Be Bardot. It was an encouraging performance first-up.
Generosity wasn’t far off the action in the Roma Cup and has done enough
