Three Group One winners from Darren Weir’s team will step out in different states on Saturday with Trust In A Gust to begin his final racing campaign at Caulfield.

Stud-bound Trust In A Gust resumes in the $150,000 VOBIS Gold Sprint before heading to Brisbane for three Group One races.

This season’s Rupert Clarke Stakes and Toorak Handicap winner will be retired to Swettenham Stud once his Brisbane campaign is completed.

Platelet, also in her final campaign, heads to Adelaide for Saturday’s RN Irwin Stakes second-up while Lucky Hussler will chase back-to-back Group One wins when he runs in the All Aged Stakes at Randwick.

Trust In A Gust’s autumn return was delayed a few weeks but Weir said he was in great order for his return.

“He was just three weeks behind where he should have been, that’s all. I’m rapt in the way he’s going,” Weir said.

“He’s heading to Brisbane but I wanted to give him a race before he went up there and the race at Caulfield makes sense.”

The BTC Cup, Doomben 10,000 and Stradbroke Handicap are his Brisbane targets.

Platelet won the Robert Sangster Stakes and The Goodwood Group One double two years ago and was second in both Adelaide races last year.

Next month’s Goodwood will be her swan song.

“It would be great to see Trust In A Gust and Platelet win another Group One, but they’ve already done their job for me, and for their owners,” Weir said.

Brad Rawiller will be jetting from state to state in the coming weeks to continue his association with both Platelet and Trust In A Gust.

He rides Platelet on Saturday with Craig Williams to ride Trust In A Gust at Caulfield.

Weir said Rawiller would then ride Trust In A Gust in Brisbane and Platelet in her Adelaide assignments.

Glen Boss guided Lucky Hussler to an explosive William Reid Stakes win first-up and rides the gelding again in the All Aged Stakes.

Lucky Hussler, beaten in a photo finish to the Emirates Stakes in the spring, notched his first Group One win first-up at Moonee Valley.

“I thought he would run well but to think he would run that well was dreaming I guess,” Weir said.

“We’ve been happy with him the whole way through his preparation and he ran terrific.

“He galloped really well on Tuesday and will have another gallop on Tuesday before going to Sydney.”
