The All-Star Mile has produced another intriguing field of gallopers and we are set for a fascinating contest at Caulfield on Saturday.
Australian Guineas winner Alligator Blood is a clear favourite in our All-Star Mile betting market, but there is no doubt that this is the toughest test of his racing career to date.
We have analysed every horse in the field and our complete 2020 All-Star Mile tips can be found below.
Kolding
Kolding is one of the most interesting runners in The All-Star Mile field. He looked to be heading in the right direction when he returned to the races in the Expressway Stakes before he produced a flat effort in the Futurity Stakes. It is hard to know how much to take from the Futurity Stakes and if he returns to the sort of form that he produced when he won The Golden Eagle in the Spring, he will be right in this contest. There is a touch of value at his current quote of $11.
Black Heart Bart
Black Heart Bart returned to the races in the Futurity Stakes and was soundly beaten in sixth. He showed that he is still capable of performing at Group 1 level when he won the Underwood Stakes during the Spring Racing Carnival, but he would need to improve significantly on his first-up performance.
Fierce Impact
Fierce Impact has been racing well without winning this campaign and he is ready to peak third-up in The All-Star Mile. He wasn’t beaten far by Alabama Express first-up in the C.F. Orr Stakes and he finished in the placings again behind Te Akau Shark in the Chipping Norton Stakes. The wide barrier draw is something of a concern, as he will have to settle in the second half of the field. Craig Williams will need to be at his best, but Fierce Impact isn’t without a chance.
Regal Power
Regal Power earnt his place in The All-Star Mile field with a fast-finishing effort in the Australian Cup and there is no doubt that he has settled into his new environment in Melbourne nicely. The big question is whether the drop back to 1600 metres will suit. His highest-rating performances have come over 2000 metres or beyond and he might find this field a bit too slick over this trip.
Streets Of Avalon
Streets Of Avalon earnt his place in the All-Star Mile with his victory in the Futurity Stakes. It is fair to say that he had all the favours in that race and the way that the Caulfield track played on the day definitely contributed to his victory. I think that he will run better than his current odds of $34 suggests, but it is tough to see him winning.
So Si Bon
So Si Bon is capable of popping up at big odds in a strong race, but it is always tough to back him with any confidence. He raced a little flat in the C.F. Orr Stakes before he finished a credible fourth behind Fifty Stars in the Blamey Stakes. It would take a career best performance to win, but it wouldn’t shock to see him storming home late.
Mr Quickie
Phillip Stokes has set Mr Quickie for a first-up tilt at the All-Star Mile and it will be an outstanding training effort if he was able to pull it off. Mr Quickie finished an excellent third behind Gatting and Mystic Journey in the Makybe Diva Stakes first-up over this trip in the Spring and that is when he had been set for the Caulfield Cup. This is his major target this campaign and his recent barrier trials suggest that he is very forward for his return to the races.
Star Missile
Connections have done well to get Star Missile into the All-Star Mile field, but he isn’t a genuine winning contender. His two runs this campaign have been poor and he is the extreme outsider in this field for a reason.
Melody Belle
Melody Belle is the horse to beat in the All-Star Mile. She returned to the races with a promising effort in the Futurity Stakes over 1400 metres and she was always going to improve on that performance. The step-up to 1600 metres is ideal for her, as is the give out of the track that we can expect at Caulfield on Saturday. Barrier five is perfect and she maps to get a lovely run in transit with Opie Bosson in the saddle. If any horse is going to be able to run down Alligator Blood, it is her.
Aristia
Aristia returned to the races with a fairly flat performance in the Mannerism Stakes and this is a genuine step-up in quality. I think that she should be able to improve on that effort, but I’m still not sure that she is right up to this company.
Alligator Blood
Alligator Blood is a deserving favourite in All-Star Mile betting. What more can you say about this horse? He has been up for an eternity, but he simply keeps on winning. He showed his toughness when he held-off Catalyst in the CS Hayes Stakes at Flemington and he never looking like getting caught in the Australian Guineas. This is a step-up in quality again and I don’t think that he will get such a soft run in front. That makes it tough to get him as short as his current quote, but it would still take a brave punter to bet against him.
Dalasan
Dalasan has been a little bit disappointing this campaign. He returned to the races with a promising effort in the Manfred Stakes before he was soundly beaten by Alligator Blood in the CS Hayes Stakes and the Australian Guineas. It is tough to see him turning-the-tables on his rival in this contest.
Superstorm
Superstorm could be the x-factor in the All-Star Mile. He is still a lightly-raced galloper and he ran all the fastest closing sectionals when he finished second behind Alligator Blood in the Australian Guineas. The wide barrier draw is something of a concern as he will need to get a long way back in the run and, once again, he will be giving the likes of Alligator Blood a big head start.
Heart Of Puissance
Heart Of Puissance will have just his fifth race start in the All-Star Mile. There is no doubt that he has potential, but this race may have come around too quickly. It is tough to back him in a race of this quality off a fourth place finish in a Benchmark 70 race at Ladbrokes Park.
Flit
A three-year-old filly, Mystic Journey, won the inaugural edition of the All-Star Mile and Flit is out to replicate that performance. Her first-up run in the Light Fingers Stakes was excellent, but she was disappointing when she was beaten as favourite in the Surround Stakes. On top of that, she was probably the biggest loser of the barrier draw and it is tough to see where she will get from barrier 15.
Spanish Reef
Spanish Reef is the first emergency in the All-Star Mile. She hasn’t been at her best this campaign and this contest looks beyond her.
Admiral’s Joker
Admiral’s Joker is the second emergency in the All-Star Mile and needs a pair of scratchings to earn a race start. He hasn’t been thereabouts this campaign, but he would need to produce a career best performance to be in the mix.
Gold Fields
Gold Fields is the third emergency for the All-Star Mile and looks unlikely to earn a start.
