Guy Walter trained Canny Ballad has placed in his last eight races and online bookmakerSportsbet.com.au thinks he can beat the trend and win Friday’s Albury Cup where he is the $6 second favourite in betting.
Canny Ballad hit the line strongly last start in a Benchmark 85 rated race at Warwick Farm when he was well backed to win. Two starts ago he was only narrowly beaten by Entirely Platinum who came out and won the Group 3 Skyline Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday. It will take a great ride by Kathy O’hara from barrier 15 but there has been good support for the 4yo gelding.

Jacquinot Bay is the current favourite for the race after a dominant win in the Canberra Cup last start and the rain that is predicted to hit Albury should only increase his chances in the race with 4:2-1-0 record in the wet. Sportsbet.com.au has kept his odds solid at his opening quote and is likely to be one of the better backed runners in lead up to the race worth an ever increasing $170,000.
In a market where there has been very little moves in betting the Gai Waterhouse trained Projectile has seen his odds shorten from $13 into $11 and with a decent wet record and inside barrier he will likely to jump in single figures.
Lloyd Williams brings two runners North of the border for the race those being Tanby who is a $14 chance and Massiyn $7 who was impressive in the Bendigo Cup two starts.
Peter Moody and Luke Nolen have been in good form of late after a long spell without a winner, they bring just the two runners to Albury which suggests they should both be good chances and the drop in grade for Sneak A Peek and a likely wet track should put him right in the finish.
Overall it looks to be a race with a stack of chances and punters will get value with any runner.
