Airbnb party jockeys to front Racing Tribunal

The five Victorian jockeys suspended for attending an ‘Airbnb’ in Mornington are set to front the Victorian Racing Tribunal.

Jamie Kah, Mark Zahra, Ben Melham, Ethan Brown and apprentice Celine Gaudray were each suspended for three months by Racing Victoria stewards for breaching RV’s COVID Protocols.

The suspensions follow their attendance at an ‘Airbnb’ in Mornington after 9pm which was also attended by two people that are non-licenced.

Kah, Melham, Brown and Gaudray were also fined $5452 by Victoria Police for breaching State Government Regulations, namely the Stay-at-Home Directions.

During their interviews last Thursday, Kah, Melham, Brown and Gaudray allegedly provided misleading evidence when they were asked by stewards to state who was in attendance, they did not list Zahra.

When interviewed on Saturday morning by stewards, Zahra denied his alleged attendance at the gathering before contacting stewards at 5.30pm that afternoon to report he was there.

The five jockeys have been charged under AR 232 which deals with giving evidence at an interview, investigation, inquiry, hearing or appeal which is false or misleading.

The seriousness means the VRT will hear the charges against the five jockeys at a future date.
