 In the news:

Hugh Bowman and his wife Christine are celebrating the arrival of their first child with the leading jockey standing down from Sydney’s midweek meeting at Canterbury.

Bowman’s wife Christine gave birth to a baby girl on Monday, the happy news broken on the jockey’s Twitter account.

“Christine and I are delighted to announce the arrival of our baby girl this morning. Mum & Bub doing very well,” the jockey tweeted.

Bowman was booked for four Canterbury mounts on Wednesday but he told stewards on Tuesday he wouldn’t be riding at the meeting.

“Hugh won’t be riding on Wednesday or Thursday but he will be back for Friday’s meeting at Randwick.”

Well-performed sprinter Aeronautical is among Bowman’s early rides for Saturday’s Rosehill meeting.

Aeronautical is an entry for the Starlight Stakes after missing out on an invitation to race in next month’s Hong Kong Sprint at Sha Tin.

Bowman’s mount for the Festival Stakes, a traditional lead-up race to the Group Two Villiers Stakes, will be the Chris Waller-trained Said Com.

He rode Said Com in the five-year-old’s most recent win at Rosehill in June but hasn’t been on the horse’s back in four subsequent starts.

Said Com is one of four Waller entries in the Festival Stakes. His other nominations are She’s Clean, Pipette and Tromso.

Bowman enjoyed another profitable Melbourne Cup carnival this year, collecting his third Victoria Derby in four years when Polanski outstayed his rivals at Flemington.

He returned to Sydney racing on a winning note with a double at Randwick on Saturday to keep him in contention for the jockeys’ title for which one corporate bookmaker has him the $3.10 second favourite behind Nash Rawiller ($2.25).
