In-form galloper Sistine Demon is back from a freshen-up following his hat-trick of city wins and will be set for the $260,000 Listed Kilmore Cup in February.
Sistine Demon completed his treble by winning the Skipton Handicap (1630m) at Flemington on December 21 and returned to Andrew Noblet’s stable on Wednesday looking much the better after the short break.
“He went out looking great and has come back even better,” Noblet said.
Noblet carefully chose Sistine Demon’s races so that he rose gradually in class and distance.
He followed a 1500m win at Moonee Valley with victory over 1410m at Flemington then returned to the track to hold off Quick Snitzel by a nose.
“We’ve kept him away from the top horses but we might have a crack at the Kilmore Cup next month,” Noblet said.
Sistine Demon, a $150,000 buy at the Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale, will have a lead-up race over 1400m at Caulfield on February 1.
“He has gone through his grades and although it might only be summer form, the form is holding up around him,” said Noblett.
On Saturday, Noblett’s only starter at Flemington is four-year-old gelding Samuelsson in the Straight Draw Handicap (1700m).
Samuelsson won at Traralgon over 1430m but could only manage fourth carrying 60.5kg in the same grade at Bendigo on December 22.
“He’s been a hard horse to place but he’s been running (ratings) 70s in the country and I thought this race at Flemington is much of a muchness,” Noblet said.
Samuelsson will benefit from a 3kg claim with apprentice Patrick Moloney which brings him down to 55kg, a kilo above the minimum.
“With the horse going well he has a chance to do something in town,” Noblet said.
