Brad Rawiller’s chances of building on his Ballarat Cup winning streak hinge on his appeal against a careless riding suspension.
Rawiller faces the Racing Appeals And Disciplinary Board on Wednesday to appeal a 10-meeting suspension handed down after he was found guilty of careless riding aboard Epingle in the Zipping Classic on Saturday at Caulfield.
The jockey has won the $200,000 Listed Ballarat Cup (2200m) for the past three years and hopes to get another chance on Sunday but will miss the meeting unless he is successful in having his conviction squashed or his penalty halved.
“It wouldn’t matter what was on this weekend though, I would be appealing anyway,” Rawiller said.
Rawiller told stewards during Saturday’s inquiry he felt he should not have had a charge to answer.
He was suspended for shifting in and unneccesarily crowding two runners passing the winning post the first time.
Nominations for the Ballarat meeting are released on Tuesday.
Rawiller has won the Cup on King Diamond (2012), Domesky (2011) and My Bently (2010).
