In the news:

Rick Hore-Lacy is undecided whether talented galloper Chase The Rainbow will make his comeback in the Listed Doveton Stakes.

The Group Two winner, who has been off the scene for 15 months, is the headline nomination for Saturday’s Listed 1000m race at Caulfield.

“We’re thinking about it but we haven’t finally decided,” Hore-Lacy said.

“We’ll accept and then decide whether to run, or just run him first-up in the Standish Handicap.”

The winner of four of his seven starts, Chase The Rainbow has been restricted to just one race in more than two years because of injuries.

As a three-year-old, Chase The Rainbow was an impressive winner of the Group Two Bill Stutt Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley, powering home from last, before being unplaced in the Caulfield Guineas.

He didn’t race again for almost 11 months, returning with a first-up win at Caulfield in September 2012 before being forced to the sidelines again through a suspensory ligament injury.

Hore-Lacy has given the five-year-old two barrier trials, the latest resulting in a 2-3/4-length win at Cranbourne last week.

“He’s a good horse and I think he’ll have a good innings. But we just haven’t decided whether or not to run,” the trainer said.

Chase The Rainbow has been given equal topweight of 60kg along with consistent sprinter The Vatican.

The Doveton Stakes has attracted 20 nominations.

Stephen Theodore has entered Don’t Get Excited for two races at Caulfield, including the Doveton, and also The City Of Marion Stakes in Adelaide.

He said he could not fault the gelding and would make a decision on where the four-year-old resumes from a let-up after studying the nominations.

“Wherever I decide to place him, he’ll certainly be running a very good race,” Theodore said.
