The John O’Shea-trained Savvy Nature has firmed into second favourite for next week’s Victoria Derby after a convincing win in the Mitchelton Wines Vase at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

Spring Champion Stakes winner Complacent is the outright favourite for the Derby after shortening from $5.50 into $4.80, while Savvy Nature is now second in betting after being wound into $5 from $7 after the victory.
“Savvy Nature was an emphatic winner of the Vase although he probably didn’t handle the tight Valley circuit,” Betstar’s Alan Eskander said.
“He has well and truly franked the Sydney three-year-old form through the Spring Champion, and that is what punters will be looking for come Derby time.
“He firmed from $7.00 into $5.50 for the Victoria Derby after his win, with all others through the Vase drifting in the market.”
“Complacent has also shortened from $5.50 into $4.80 outright favourite, as he did have his measure at their last two meetings.
“In a carnival where Victorian trained winners have been hard to come by, it looks like the Sydney siders have the Derby at their mercy.”
