Sportingbet punters have singled out Chris Waller’s Hawkspur as the horse to beat in Saturday’s Caulfield Cup with the final Cup field announced today.
A $4.80 favourite yesterday, Hawkspur was well backed this morning firming into a clear $4.20 favourite with Sportingbet Australia. Stablemate Royal Descent is second favourite at $7 ahead of international raider Dandino at $7.50.
“Fawkner and Dandino had been the best backed runners over the last few days but the punters have swung back to Hawkspur today,” Sportingbet’s Michael Felgate said.
“The barrier draw will be crucial tomorrow, if Hawkspur draws well and his main rivals don’t he could get to $4 going on the support he has had today.”
Silent Achiever is on the next line of betting at $9. Jet Away is $10 followed by Fawkner at $13 and Dear Demi at $15. Former German galloper Walpark has had some backing today firming from $31 into $26.
After claiming the final spot in the field, Julienas is a $35 chance with 1st emergency Forgotten Voice firming from $101 into $51 despite needing a scratching to get a run.
