1. PROISIR

Choisir colt form the Gai Waterhouse yard who is looking to make it four wins from as many starts and, after his sensational performance a little over a fortnight ago in the G3 Spring Stakes at Newcastle, there’s no reason he won’t. He won the Spring Stakes by close to six lengths and in doing so accounted for Proverb who came out and won the Listed Dulcify Quality (1900m) last week at Rosehill.

Odds: $1.45

Proisir is likely to be the shortest priced favourite all day in the Spring Champion Stakes

2. IT’S A DUNDEEL

He’s another unbeaten colt who has won four on the trot; the latest was a solid win in the G3 Gloaming Stakes (1800m) here at Randwick a fortnight ago. As has been the case in all of his runs thus far, he was very strong late and the 2000m looks ideal for him.

Odds: $5.00

3. HONORIUS

Colt by Holy Roman Emperor who has indicated in two runs back this prep that he’ll be in the mix here. First up he was fourth in the Ming Dynasty (1400m) and then stepped up to the 1800m of the Gloaming where he chased home It’s A Dundeel. Will be better for that run and gets a good run throughout from gate one.

Odds: $11.00

4. LUNAR RISE

Bart Cummings trained galloper who had won a Kembla Maiden (1400m) and Class 1 at Newcastle (1500m) before a good effort in the Gloaming Stakes (3rd, beaten 1.5) behind It’s A Dundeel and Honorius. Had his chance there but with that experience over a longer journey under his belt, could improve.

Odds: $13.00

5. LASER FLASH

Colt by Redoute’s Choice who won a BM 68 (1900m) at Canterbury before a good effort in the Dulcify Quality, finishing third behind Proverb at Rosehill last week. He made good ground in race domnated by those up front in that race.

Odds: $26.00

6. BRADMAN

David Hayes galloper who has won two from four starts this prep (Wagga Maiden and Albury Class 2) with his latest start in a Caulfield Open (1700m) a fortnight ago behind Hvassten. Likely to be giving most of these a start and can’t see him running them down.

Odds: $101.00

7. KING OF OLYMPIA

A son of Encosta de Lago and second of Gai Waterhouse’s runners who, at his most recent start, put in a tenacious effort when jumping from the 1400m to 1800m of the Gloaming Stakes. After settling on the speed, he momentarily hit the lead before sticking on to fourth beaten less than two lengths. Better for that experience.

Odds: $17.00

OVERVIEW

With all of these runners getting out to the trip for the first time, there is an element of the unknown about this race. Proisir couldn’t have been more impressive than he was in the Spring Stakes at Newcastle and the form from that race has been franked since. He’s opened up with Sportsbet at $1.45. At the prices It’s A Dundeel ($5.00), who looks like he’ll relish the trip, represents good value and Honorius ($9.00) having had jumped to the 1800m second up last start, should be better for it.
