The second edition of the Zozo Championship tees off on Friday, only this time from the Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks California.

One of the West Coast’s most famous courses will host its first PGA Tour event after the tournament was relocated from the Narashino Country Club in Tokyo due to the pandemic.

With a very cool $8 million prize-fund on offer, the tournament has once again drawn a star-studded field featuring the likes of Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas, Rory McIlroy and last year’s winner, Tiger Woods.

Zozo Championship Best Bet

Tyrell Hatton at $19.00

Tyrell Hatton missed the cut at the US Open last month but rebounded brilliantly to win the BMW Championship in the UK three weeks later finishing -19 under.

The Englishman is white hot heading to Sherwood coming off a T3 last week at Shadow Creek, a tournament he really should have won after leading by 18 holes.

Form lines like that normally turn into wins sooner or later, so I’m happy to take the $19 on offer.

Bubba Watson at $34.00

Bubba has firmed significantly in the market opening at 34-1 after going around at $67 a week ago at Shadow Creek.

The 41-year-old is among only a handful of golfers to have played this course previously and the results more than catch they eye.

Bubba has finished Top 15 on all four occasions, which includes an outright third in the Northwestern Mutual World Challenge back in 2014. He’ll turn 42 in a fortnight’s time, but after leading the field in Strokes Gained: Tee to Green last week on the way to a T7 at Shadow Creek, you wouldn’t know it.

Russell Henley at $41.00

Henley is making some real headway towards his fourth win on Tour and is worthy of a spot on your bet slip this week.

The 31-year-old probably would have won last week if it wasn’t for a disappointing final round 70, a performance that saw him fall to a T3 finish.

Even so, Henley still lead the field in total distance of putts made in what was also his third consecutive Top 10 finish.

Phil Mickelson at $81

Mickelson has spent a bit of time on the Champions Tour of late where he won the Dominion Energy Charity Classic last week in Virginia.

Mickelson, like Bubba, knows a thing or two about Sherwood having played the course twice during the early 2000s. He failed to figure anywhere close to the finish on both occasions, but with two wins on the Senior Tour coming in, third time might prove the charm.
