Seven straight birdies by Victorian Lindsey Wright has catapulted her into a share of the lead after the second round of the Women’s NSW Open in Sydney.

Wright made the most of the early calm conditions to sign for a course-record equalling eight-under-par 64 at Oatlands Golf Club on Saturday.

At 10-under-par for the tournament, she sits at the top of the leaderboard with South Australian Stephanie Na with 18 holes to play.

Na posted a fine round of 66 in the blustery afternoon conditions to go with her opening round of 68.

The pair will take a one-stroke lead into Sunday over first-round leader, Western Australian Kristie Smith, who shot a 70.

Sharing fourth position at eight-under-par is Japan’s Noriko Kubo (67) and England’s Hannah Burke (68), while France’s Joanna Klatten (67), WA’s Jessica Speechley (68), Scotland’s Kylie Walker (67) and ACT’s Nikki Campbell (69) share sixth position a further shot back.

Wright, who has been ranked as high as world No.12, got off to a solid start with three straight pars before she went on a rampage of seven straight birdies from the fourth to 10th holes.

Her lone bogey came on the par-3 12th hole, when she found the sand off the tee and didn’t get up and down.

Another two birdies in her remaining six holes saw her sign for a 64.

“It was almost flawless, I had a stellar day out there,” said Wright, the 2012 Women’s New Zealand Open champion.

“I started well … I was just going hell for leather out there, it was awesome.”

England’s Laura Davies is at five-under-par and tied for 12th while Sarah Kemp moved up the leaderboard with a 68 to be tied for 18th.
