Tiger Woods ran off six straight birdies in the middle of his opening round on Friday and shared the early lead at the Deutsche Bank Championship with a seven-under 64.
Coming off a poor weekend at Bethpage Black, Woods was close to flawless until the end of the round. After his ball sat down in the collar of the ninth green, his chip ran 12 feet by and he wound up with his only bogey on the TPC Boston. Woods missed only two greens. Five of his birdies were from 12 feet or longer.
Jeff Overton birdied the 18th hole to join Woods in the lead among the early starters. Overton needs a good tournament to advance to his home state of Indiana next week in the FedEx Cup playoffs.
