Tiger Woods drew some old-fashioned Saturday roars but appears to have surrendered any chance of a 15th major and fifth green jacket early in the third round of the Masters.
Starting the day eight shots off the lead Woods missed an early birdie chance on the second hole before rallying the huge galleries with back-to-back birdies.
After hitting a booming drive on the third hole Woods pitched to eight feet and rolled in the birdie.
He then stood on the par three fourth tee and hit a laser approach to inside three feet, bring the galleries to rapture.
After converting the birdie the 1997, 2001, 2002 and 2005 Masters champion stuffed his approach on five to seven feet and thoughts of a birdie blitz seemed ready to materialise.
But Woods slid the putt past the hole and then three-putted the sixth green for bogey to stop his momentum.
A further bogey came at the ninth hole leaving him even on the round and three-over for the tournament in a tie for 39th through 11 holes, still eight behind the leaders yet to start their rounds.
Adam Scott is one-under for the day through six holes to move to a tie for 25th at even par while Geoff Ogilvy is one-over for the week through eight holes and tied 31st.
Australia’s leading hope Aaron Baddeley is due to start his final round at two-under par and tied 11th shortly, three back of Fred Couples and Jason Dufner who lead at five-under par.
