It’s been one tough week if you’re a golfer named Woods.

Less than a week after her famous uncle Tiger was forced to pull out of a US PGA Tour event in Arizona, Cheyenne Woods has endured a horror day at the Australian Ladies Masters on the Gold Coast.

The 24-year-old American shot a second-round five-over-par 78 at Royal Pines to leave her Masters’ defence in tatters.

After an even-par opening round, Woods made five bogeys and not one birdie on Friday including a three-putt finish on the 18th when a birdie seemed inevitable.

Woods has at least avoided repeating the fate of last year’s defending champion Karrie Webb, who was disqualified after the second round when she filled out the wrong scorecard.

The American said her day had peaked before she arrived at the course with a helicopter flight over the city with her mother.

“It went downhill after the helicopter ride,” Woods said.

“I played terrible and never got a birdie.”

While Woods might have just snuck past the cut, the shocker means she is 14 shots off the leader and almost certainly out of contention.

It’s a far cry from 12 months ago when Woods became the darling of the event on her way to securing the first, and so far only, title of her professional career.

At least, unlike Tiger, she’ll still be picking up the clubs to play out her tournament.
