Westwood continues charge at Augusta

England’s Lee Westwood remains on track for a career first major after a solid start to the second round of the Masters at Augusta National.

Westwood is even par on his second round through six holes to be five-under for the tournament, one shot clear of Americans Ben Crane (nine holes) and Jason Dufner (seven holes) plus Swede Peter Hanson (three holes) who are four-under.

Rory McIlroy is making an early move with two quick birdies to be amongst six players at three-under.

Aaron Baddeley still leads the Australian tilt at one-under par, but is yet to start his second round.

The only Australian out early on Friday is John Senden who started with a disastrous triple bogey seven on the opening hole to put his chances of making the cut in serious jeopardy.

Senden pulled his drive into the trees, failed to escape trouble with his second, was forced to lay up with a third and then three-putted from 15 feet once finding the green.

He has parred the next seven holes but at five-over par for the tournament and tied 78th the Queenslander sits on the projected cut line.

The top 44 and ties plus anyone within 10 shots of the lead make the weekend, leaving the 40-year-old with very little wiggle room over the closing holes.

Geoff Ogilvy (+2), Adam Scott (+3), Jason Day (+4) and amateur Bryden Macpherson (+5) are all due out shortly for round two and must improve to secure weekend play.
