Greg Chalmers is four strokes from the lead in a tie for third at the halfway stage of the USPGA event in Malaysia.

The West Australian shot a second round five-under 66 to trail American Robert Garrigus, who fired seven-under to lead at 14 under par at the par-71 Mines Resort and Golf Club in Kuala Lumpur.

Garrigus has a two-stroke lead over South African Jbe Kruger, who matched the leader’s second round total.

Overnight leader Troy Matteson was tied with Chalmers at 10-under for the tournament with the pair one shot clear of 14-time major winner Tiger Woods, who produced a round of four-under.

Kevin Na and Zimbabwe’s Brendon de Jonge are next on the leaderboard on nine under.

As usual, Woods was the centre of crowd and media attention.

“It’s wet, it’s a little bit muddy. It (low scoring) can be had out there, guys are shooting good scores, a bunch of 65s and lower today,” Woods said.

“It’s going to take a really low total (to win). I’ve just to get after it tomorrow so at least I’ll have a chance on Sunday.”

Hi playing partner Kruger seized the joint lead with a run of six birdies.

He bogeyed 12, but then hit back with birdies on 13 and 17.

Leader Garrigus had a bogey on the final hole.

“I’m two shots ahead of the field right now. That means nothing,” Garrigus said. “I’ll probably be tied for the lead or behind before I get on the tee box tomorrow. That happens a lot.

“I’ve just got to go out and have fun, enjoy it and see what happens.”
