Sweden’s Henrik Stenson overtook Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia while Marc Leishman moved within two of the lead as dangerous weather delayed the third round of the Players Championship.
Stenson was two-under par on his round through eight holes to move to 11-under for the tournament, one clear of Garcia and Woods who shared second at 10-under when an impending storm forced players indoors.
The Swede won the tournament in 2009 and is now in the box seat to claim the lucrative title once more.
Leishman is three-under par through 10 holes to rocket up to nine-under and a tie for fourth with American veteran Jeff Maggert (66) and Sweden’s David Lingmerth (nine holes).
Woods and Garcia have played six holes as the final group with Woods even par on the round and Garcia one-over.
Leishman, fresh off his personal best 66 on the TPC Sawgrass lay out, opened with three birdies on his first four holes to stalk the leaders.
But he cooled somewhat with six straight pars after and was in the greenside rough in two on the par five 11th when play stopped.
Masters champion Adam Scott is even on his round through 10 holes to be in a tie for eighth at seven-under where countryman Greg Chalmers joins him.
Scott is yet to tee off on the 11th. He bogeyed his opening hole, ran up eight straight pars before making birdie on the 10th.
Chalmers made a run up the leaderboard with a four-under round through 16 holes. He managed four birdies on the front side, dropped a shot at the 15th but bounced back with birdie on 16.
He had just hit onto the iconic 17th island green when play stopped, leaving him a 25 foot birdie attempt when play resumes.
John Senden and Jason Day carded matching 71s before the delay to be two-under and one-under respectively, probably too far back to make a Sunday charge.
