Senior in contention on Champions Tour

Peter Senior rocketed up the Champions Tour leaderboard on Saturday to set himself for yet another crack at a maiden golf tournament win on American soil.

A runner-up five times in less than three years in the 50-and-over ranks, Queenslander Senior fired a day’s best six-under-par 66 to be equal second going into the final round of the Regions Tradition tournament at Shoal Creek.

He started his third round in 16th place and finished tied with Jeff Sluman, two strokes behind leader Tom Lehman.

The round included a spectacular hole-out with a five iron from 185 yards on the seventh hole.

“That was a highlight,” he said. “That really kicked me into gear,” Senior said.

Senior nearly won the event last year, missing a 35-foot birdie putt for victory on the final hole then losing out in a playoff.

“I’d dearly love to win,” Senior told PGATour.com

“I’ve had plenty of opportunities. That’s the only thing I’m looking forward to now is winning an event.”
