Australia’s Jason Day and Adam Scott have lost ground on the leaders during the second round of golf’s World Cup at Royal Melbourne.
Day started Friday two shots behind the joint overnight leaders, Denmark’s Thomas Bjorn and American Kevin Streelman.
Scott started the day nine shots off the pace and the Australians were six shots behind the Danes and Americans, who led the team competition.
By the time Day completed a one-under-par second round of 70, to move to four under overall, he was three shots behind Bjorn and Streelman, who were on seven under and still sharing the lead.
Streelman was in the clubhouse after shooting 69 to back his fine opening round 66.
Bjorn had six holes still to play.
Scott, who shot a four-over-par 75 on Thursday, picked up three shots on the front nine on Friday to reach one over.
But he double-bogeyed the 11th to fall back to three over par, 10 shots off the lead.
The Australians had also slipped back in the team competition.
American Matt Kuchar, playing with Scott, was on two under, helping the United States to a nine-under total, three clear of Denmark.
Australia were on a combined one under, eight shots off the pace.
