The Queensland Open is returning to the Australian PGA Tour for the first time since 2007.
While PGA of Australia board officials debate a possible new venue for next year’s Australian PGA Championship following a falling out with billionaire Coolum resort owner Clive Palmer, the Queensland Open has found its way back into the tour’s schedule with a three-year sponsorship deal with truck manufacturers Isuzu.
It will be played at the Greg Norman-designed Brookwater Golf and Country club, the No.1 rated course in the state, from August 22-25.
The names already on the TB Hunter Cup include Norman, Ian Baker-Finch, Peter Senior and Norman Von Nida.
Recent Australian Open winner Senior said the Queensland Open provided a fantastic opportunity for young and up and coming players to experience golf at a championship level.
“The Queensland tournament has a rich history and it’s encouraging to see it back on the PGA Tour of Australasia in 2013,” he said.
