Price is Right

Aron Price admits the butterflies were churning in the stomach during his first major championship practice round but with a couple of days to settle in the New South Welshman is now excited for his debut.

After plying his trade on the US PGA tour with limited success from 2009-2011 Price slipped back to the secondary web.com tour and major championship golf wasn’t really in the consciousness.

But 2014 shapes as a potential life changer for the 32-year-old as he awaits the birth of his first child and pegs it up at the big show for the first time having claimed a place through sectional qualifying.

His two brothers and father have made the trek from Australia, making the week a memorable family affair.

“I had to pinch myself walking down the first practice hole.

“I don’t get like that too often, but I did on Monday, and it was actually pretty cool,” Price said of his first major championship impressions.

“I haven’t played a PGA tour event since 2011 so I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little uncomfortable even just playing practice rounds with all the people around and the massive stands.

“But playing holes everyday has helped and I’m feeling comfortable now and ready to go.”

Should Price have a big week and then go on to bigger and better things on the secondary tour in his chase to return to the main tour, he might be sending the Australian Masters officials an extra special Christmas gift.

After receiving a last-minute invite to play in November last year at Royal Melbourne, Price’s love for the game was reinvigorated when he played the composite course for the first time and ended up finishing tied seventh.

“Having fallen off the big tour and grinding a little bit to get back you can lose a little motivation but just playing the composite for the first time, in practice, in crappy weather, it motivated me.

“It is the same here this week. Great courses and occasions get the juices flowing and get your energy levels up. This definitely inspires me to get back out there and contend.”
