Pettersen wins LPGA Taiwan by three shots

Suzann Pettersen of Norway staged a spectacular comeback on Sunday, overcoming a two-stroke deficit on South Korean overnight leader Park Inbee to win the LPGA Taiwan Championship by three strokes.

The Sunrise course finally delivered its infamous high winds after three days of relatively calm weather, but Pettersen seemed unaffected by the tough conditions as she claimed her tenth LPGA Tour title.

She fired five birdies and two bogeys in a round of 69 take the prize at 19-under-par 269.

Petterson also got help from Park, who had an error-filled round with only one birdie and three bogeys in a round of 74.

“I was hoping for tough conditions, because it eliminates half the field,” Petterson said.

“It was easy for me to stay and stick to my own game plan and not worry about anyone. I knew no one was going really low today.”

Park admitted she had problems because of the wind.

“Today I hit the ball good, but the putts just didn’t fall,” Park said.

“I held a lot of putts in the last three days, and today was just an unlucky day … I think on windy days the putting is the toughest because it’s just too hard to concentrate.”

The South Korean player won two weeks ago in Malaysia for her second victory of the year and leads the money list.

Pettersen has now won two tournaments in a row, having beat Scotland’s Catriona Matthew in a playoff in South Korea.

Third on Sunday was defending champion and local favourite Yani Tseng who had a 71 to finish at 15 under, one better than Matthew (70).
