The PGA Tour heads back to South Carolina this week for a one-off trip to Congaree Golf Club.

Traditionally this weekend would be reserved for the RBC Canadian Open, but due to travel restrictions, the PGA was forced to get creative and venture to the second-oldest course in the United States.

Several of the world’s top names are missing on the back of last week’s Memorial Tournament, which in turn has left Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka as the only players at single digits in the market.

Palmetto Championship Best Bets

Matthew Fitzpatrick – $15.00

It’s tough to get excited about some of the favourites this week, but Matthew Fitzpatrick could be worth a wager despite the fact he’s still searching for his first win on TOUR.

On the plus side though, the Englishman finished T4 in South Carolina at the RBC Heritage, and it’s fair to say Congaree plays similarly to Harbour Town.

Also working in Fitzpatrick’s favour is his accuracy off the tee.

At Congaree, sand replaces most of the rough on the fairways, so striking the ball down the middle off the tee is a big requirement.

Fitzpatrick’s putting is just as consistent, even if that wasn’t the case last week at Muirfield Village. I’m expecting a bounce-back.

Palmetto Championship Best Value

Ian Poulter – $34.00

You read that right, two Englishman this week.

Poulter’s recent form is too good to ignore as he looks to build on a T3 at Colonial a fortnight ago.

Before that, the TOUR veteran snuck into the Top 30 at Kiawah Island, while like Fitzpatrick, he also fared well in South Carolina at the RBC Heritage back in April.

Poulter is the kind of player worth backing when he’s in form, and with a red-hot putter at his disposal, the current odds are very generous.

Alex Noren – $34.00

How can you ignore the Swede?

Noren has been the model of consistency this year making the cut in 15 of his 19 appearances.

He was outstanding last week at Muirfield Village, particularly over the final round where he posted the second-best round of the day to finish T13.

The 38-year-old probably needs to improve a little off the tee, but he’s got the putting and the short game to compete all weekend.

Palmetto Championship Best Roughies

Matthew NeSmith – $91.00

NeSmith would need to improve significantly on his efforts last week at the Memorial, but even so, he’s worth including on his home course.

Like a few others, the 27-year-old was competitive at the RBC Heritage a couple of months back and the fact he also ranks fifth in Strokes Gained: Approach also bodes well on this course.

Seamus Power – $91.00

Keeping with the international flavour, let’s go with an Irishman to round things out.

Power has been a real quiet achiever over the last few months making the cut in his last four tournaments, which includes a T9 at the Byron Nelson a few weeks ago.

He’s rested and is also one of the most consistent guys going when it comes to the short game.
