Ogilvy in contention in PGA Tour event

Australia’s Geoff Ogilvy has reversed some ugly early season form to emerge as a title contender at the US PGA Tour’s Honda Classic.

Ogilvy was tied third, two shots from the lead, after shooting an even-par 70 in the third round on the PGA National champions course at Palm Beach Gardens in Florida.

Young rookie Luke Guthrie (71) and fellow American Michael Thompson (70) led at eight-under from Ogilvy and Englishman Lee Westwood (70) with Americans Ricky Fowler and Charles Howell a further shot back.

Ogilvy had missed the cut in the last four of his previous five starts this season, hampered by putting woes which had him ranked 168th out of 177 golfers on the tour in strokes gained putting.

Steve Bowditch was the next-best placed Australian in a tie for 39th.
