FP – Karrie Webb’s two-years-plus wait for LPGA Tour win No.39 goes on after another near-miss.
Australian great Webb started the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic final round two shots off the pace and shot a four-under-par 68 to finish two shots under the previous tournament record at 19-under-par 269 on Sunday.
However it was only good enough to tie for fourth, two shots behind American Jennifer Johnson who had eight birdies in a 65 to claim her first tour title by one-stroke over Pornanong Phatlum (63) and Jessica Korda (68).
The 21-year-old Johnson’s previous best finish was a tie for eighth at Prattville, Alabama, in 2011.
Thailand’s Pornanong climbed up the leaderboard with 10 birdies, including three in a row to end her round.
She was joined on 268 by Korda, who started the day one off the lead and had seven birdies.
Overnight leader Chella Choi of South Korea carded a 70 to finish tied with Webb and compatriot Shin Jiyai (63), Thai teenager Ariya Jutanugarn (65) and Sweden’s Anna Nordqvist (69).
Stacy Lewis, who set the previous tournament record scoring 271 in winning last year, carded a final-round 67 to finish alone in ninth on 270.
