With cameras everywhere, not much gets missed at a live sporting broadcast these days.
That’s what makes whatever happened to Australian golfer John Senden during his third round at the Australian PGA Championship so intriguing.
The only time anyone became aware of a scratch to the US PGA Tour winner’s face was when a camera caught him on a fairway holding an ice pack over the offending mark.
Reports circulated that the 43-year-old had flicked some bark or other debris into his face as he played a shot near trees.
Then after Senden had completed his one-over-par 73 round another version came through suggesting the Queenslander had carelessly walked into a tree as he focused on his shot rather than where he was going.
Whatever happened, Senden was giving little away as he refused to talk to media on his way to the clubhouse – a band-aid still stuck to his face.
“Nobody needs to know,” he told a TV camera crew when asked to explain what had happened.
Far from the worst injury to befall a golfer on the course, but clearly one of the most mysterious.
