A handful of the world’s top golfers head to Mexico this weekend for the 13th edition of the Mayakaoba Golf Classic from Cancun.

The El Camaleon Golf Club is a well-known Greg Norman design that calls for plenty of accuracy off the tee with rainforest, mangroves and ocean surrounding the fairways.

Mayakoba Golf Classic Best Bet

Abraham Ancer at $19.00

Now this would be something special.

Ancer has flirted with a win all year and is fresh from a superb T13 on debut at Augusta last month that reminded everybody why he is considered one of the brightest young stars on Tour.

Better yet, this is also his home tournament, one that no Mexican player has even won before.

He’s a certain star in the making, and with two Top 10 finishes at this event in his last three appearances, I’m keen to have something on him to finally break through.

Corey Conners at $26.00

The Canadian has finished Top 10 in his last two appearances, which includes a T10 at Augusta last month after shooting a brilliant second round 65.

Conners’ short game could do with some work, but his accuracy off-the-tee should come in handy on this water-logged course.

Russell Henley at $26.00

This course calls for plenty of accuracy off the tee, so I’m looking towards a guy like Henley that consistently finds the fairways on a regular basis.

The 31-year-old has finished inside the Top 30 in each of his last five events and also happens to rank 10th on Tour in driving accuracy.

He finished 29th on debut at this tournament two years ago and missed the cut last year, so the American certainly has plenty of experience on his side.

Roberto Diaz at $401.00

I know, very long odds, but Diaz might be worth something small playing on his home course.

The 33-year-old has mixed his form on the PGA Tour, but it’s worth noting he does rank seventh in driving accuracy percentage.

He’s also played the last six editions of this tournament, so it’s safe to say he knows the course like the back of his hand.

Justin Thomas at $7.00

Thomas is the rightful favourite in the field having now finished inside the Top 25 in each of his last four tournaments.

The American has enjoyed a few weeks off following his outright fourth at the Masters and is returning to El Camaleon for the first time since 2015 – the same year he debuted with a T23.

Currently Top 15 in strokes gained: tee-to-green, he’s the man to beat.

Brooks Koepka at $12.00

Back to back Top 10’s has Koepka poised to strike this weekend.

The 30-year-old followed up a T5 at the Houston Open with a T7 at Augusta and is reportedly feeling fit and healthy after taking some time off due to injury earlier in the year.

This is Koepka’s first look at El Camaleon, but with a much-improved short game, he’s definitely up to the test.

Harris English at $17.00

English won this tournament back in 2013 and wasn’t far off claiming a double last year with an outright fifth.

On the flip side, he did miss the cut in three straight years between 2016-18, but recent form suggests that’s unlikely to happen again.

After an outright fourth at the US Open back in September, English has finished Top 10 in two of his last three events.

Daniel Berger at $21.00

Daniel Berger has been a favourite of mine all year and there is no denying he’s well-deserving of his fourth Tour win.

The American has missed the cut only once over the last calendar year, which includes a strong run of a win, two runner-ups, two thirds and a couple of top five finishes.

He hasn’t played this course since 2014, but everything about his recent form suggests he can be competitive.

Tony Finau at $21.00

Finau continues to find new and creative ways to lose as punters still long for that illustrious second Tour win.

He’s been equally frustrating at this course in recent years missing the cut twice but also finishing Top 15 on two other occasions.

Overall, he could win, but do you really want to risk it?

Viktor Hovland at $21.00

Hovland is a big name to keep an eye on this weekend as he continues to make real headway towards a second Tour win.

The Norwegian has finished Top 20 eight times since play resumed and has also been one of the more consistent players from tee-to-green ranking 21st in strokes gained.

He’s missed the cut on both occasions at this event in the past, but that experience should do him well.
