LPGA Tour season to open in Bahamas

The LPGA Tour says it will open its season in January for the first time in 13 years, beginning with the Bahamas Classic.

The inaugural Bahamas event was played in late May this year but the flood-plagued tournament was reduced to three 12-hole rounds.

The 2014 classic will be staged from January 23-26.

“After a challenging inaugural year, we are excited to be back at the Ocean Club, preparing for the 2014 Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic,” Jeff Raedle, president of tournament manager Global Golf Management, said on Wednesday.

“The players, fans and television viewers will truly see the event shine to its fullest with the new date.”
