Stacy Lewis had another big week at St. Andrews and walked off with an even bigger prize – a major championship at the home of golf.
Lewis finished a marathon Sunday with a pair of exquisite birdies on the Old Course and closed with an even-par 72 to win the women’s British Open.
It’s her second major on the LPGA Tour, and it ends a record streak of 10 straight majors won by Asian players.
The last time Lewis was at St. Andrews was in 2008, when she went 5-0 and led the Americans to victory in the Curtis Cup.
Na Yeon Choi had a three-shot lead with six holes to play, but stumbled to finish in a tie for second alongside compatriot Hee Young Park.
A bogey on the 17th ended Choi’s chances.
Inbee Park’s bid for a fourth straight major ended early.
Katherine Hull-Kirk finished 11 shots back at three-over in a tie for 22nd as the best-placed Australian.
