Marc Leishman has played his opening nine holes of the second round at the Masters in even par to lead by one at Augusta National.
Leishman shared the overnight lead with Spain’s Sergio Garcia after an opening round 66 and, despite two early bogeys, bounced back with birdies on the seventh and eighth holes to be six under and one clear of Americans Fred Couples and Jim Furyk.
The 53-year-old Couples, the 1992 Masters champion, shot a one-under 71 to move to five under while Furyk was on the same score through 10 holes.
Fellow former champion, 2009 winner Angel Cabrera of Argentina, fired a 69 to be two back at four under, tied with England’s Justin Rose who is through 10 holes.
Australian Adam Scott carded an even par 72 to remain three under in a tie for sixth with Tiger Woods who has played just five holes.
Garcia stumbled with a 76 to be in a tie for eighth at two under.
Chinese schoolboy, 14-year-old Tianlang Guan, shot a three over 75 after a one-stroke penalty for slow play on the 17th hole.
He sits at four-over par, right on the current cut line.
John Senden and Jason Day are in a tie for 19th at one-under par early in their rounds.
