Kim five clear in LPGA’s Mexico event

Christina Kim is on track for her first LPGA Tour title in nine years as she takes a five-shot lead into the last round of the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in Mexico.

A stroke ahead after each of the first two rounds, American Kim shot a four-under-par 68 on Saturday to put a big gap on the field at 14-under 202 at Club de Golf Mexico.

Kim matched China’s Shanshan Feng for the best round of the day in calm, sunny conditions on the tree-lined course.

She birdied two of the first three holes, bogeyed No.5 and pulled away with birdies on 10, 13 and 17.

Feng, the inner of last month’s LPGA event in Malaysia, climbed to outright second place with her 68.

South Korea’s So Yeon Ryu (69), Spain’s Azahara Munoz (71) and Thailand’s Pornanong Phatlum (71) were a shot further back.

World No.1 Inbee Park was sixth at seven-under after a 69. She’s coming off a victory two weeks ago in the LPGA Taiwan.

Teenage New Zealand star Lydia Ko stumbled with a 74 and slipped back to tied eighth at five-under.
