Johnson leads Ladies Scottish Open

England’s Trish Johnson has taken a commanding lead at the Ladies Scottish Open after firing an impressive two-under par second round.

The two-under 70 in tricky conditions, which followed an opening-round six-under 66, has left Johnson in a dominant position leading into Sunday’s final round.

Johnson now holds a six-shot lead from Scotland’s Sally Watson and France’s Gwladys Nocera, while Stephanie Na is the best-placed Australian at one over in a share of ninth spot, while Rebecca Artis is a further stroke back and Nikki Campbell and Nikki Garrett also close behind.

“It was tough out there (on Saturday), probably harder than (Friday),” Johnson said.

“The wind was much stronger and just relentless so I was very pleased with that.

“It feels like I’m putting well so hopefully it will continue well (on Sunday). It’s more in the head than anything else.”

With 18 Ladies European Tour titles and three LPGA trophies in 28 years on tour, Johnson is already a Life Member of the LET, but if she wins on Sunday, she will overtake Laura Davies as the oldest winner in the tour’s history.
