Hend climbs as Scott struggles

Adam Scott’s chance at becoming world number one are seemingly blowing away with the strong gusts at the World Golf Championship event in Miami but little known Scott Hend is making a charge.

Doral’s Blue Monster course was living up to its name midway through the second round with just 16 of the 68 players under par as strong winds wreaked havoc.

Hend, a five-time Asian Tour winner, three of which came last year, sat at one-under through eight holes of his second round in a tie for ninth, just three shots off the lead.

Masters champion Scott was not faring anywhere near as well, five over for the week after nine holes of round two and tied 46th.

Scott, who was looking good overnight at just one off the lead, had to return early morning to finish the final eight holes of his rain-delayed first round and may have wished he stayed in bed.

The Queenslander butchered the first five holes after the resumption with two double bogeys and a bogey and, although he made a few birdies, carded a three-over 75.

Forced to go back out almost immediately for round two the Queenslander added another double bogey and bogey with just one more birdie.

He was languishing nine shots behind American Dustin Johnson who was leading at four-under just five holes into his second round.

Scott would move to world No.1 if he won the event and current No.1 Tiger Woods finished worse than fifth.

Half of the equation is likely with Woods a shot worse than Scott at six-over.

Brett Rumford continues to languish in last place at 15 over.
