Green day a hit for Scott at Aust PGA

Adam Scott has hit the front at the Australian PGA Championship on a day where the Gold Coast turned green to celebrate the Masters champion’s achievements.

The world No.2, who showed off the green jacket he won at Augusta National following his round, holds a two shot lead following the second day’s play at Royal Pines.

Scott shot a solid four-under 67 to move to 10-under overall as he aims to complete the triple crown of Australian major titles following his Australian Masters win last year and the 2009 Australian Open crown.

His round, which was bogey-free for the second day running, included two birdies and an eagle on the par-five 12th in front of a gallery awash with green as part of a PGA of Australia promotion to celebrate Scott’s major triumph.

“I put a real focus on getting ready the best I could for this event and wanting to play well,” he said.

“Here I am in pretty good shape at the moment … in with a good chance to win the Australian PGA and that’s what I was focused on.”

Victorian journeyman David McKenzie is in second place after a second round 69 left him on eight-under overall.

The 46-year-old’s position could have been even better without bogeys on the 13th and 18th which cost him a share of the lead with Scott.

American young gun and overnight leader Rickie Fowler began his round with a magnificent 99-yard approach on the par-four first hole which dropped in for an eagle.

But the 24-year-old’s bright start wasn’t an indicator of things to come, with four bogeys derailing his round and forcing him to scramble home with a one-over 72.

Fowler goes into day three on seven-under alongside Nathan Green (69) and New Zealand’s Gareth Paddison (67) in a tie for third.

Past Australian PGA Championship winner Peter Lonard (73), looked set to miss the cut, along with Craig Parry (74), James Nitties (71) and Andre Stolz (71).

Michael Sim (75), playing just his fourth tournament of the year, double-bogeyed the 18th to also fall below the proposed cut line.
