Golfers struggling at Riviera Country Club

Riviera Country Club is showing its teeth midway through the second round of the Northern Trust Open with the overnight lead holding through the morning wave.

American Ryan Moore fired a three-under 68 to move to five-under-par (137) for the tournament, joining Vijay Singh (three holes), Nick Watney (one hole), James Hahn (yet to start) and Daniel Summerhays (yet to start) at the top of the leaderboard.

Australian Geoff Ogilvy, who started his second round just two off the pace, fell victim to the diabolical drivable par four 10th hole.

Starting his round at 10 Ogilvy took a double bogey six but bounced back on the 11th with birdie to sit at two-under and just three off the pace.

Matt Jones put up a round of 72 to sit even par for the week as the next best Australian.

John Senden, at one over for the tournament through three holes of his second round, is the only other Australian inside the current cutline.

Robert Allenby (+4), Steven Bowditch (+6), Aaron Baddeley (+6) and Marc Leishman (+8) are in trouble.

The poor result will prove costly for Leishman as he will fall out of the world top 50 on the eve of the cut off to get an invite to the World Golf Championships Cadillac Championship at Trump Doral in a fortnight.
