Golfer Jason Day will reunite with grieving family members in Melbourne on Saturday for the first time since learning of the death of eight relatives in the Philippines.
Day, playing in the World Cup at Royal Melbourne, lost his grandmother, an uncle and six cousins in Typhoon Haiyan.
His mother and sisters were due to fly from Brisbane to Melbourne late on Friday night.
Day, who lives in the US with his wife and young son, said he wouldn’t see his family until Saturday morning, but it would be a welcome moment.
“I’m going to be sleeping by the time she gets in,” Day said at the course on Friday.
“I’m definitely looking forward to waking up and going to have breakfast with my mum and my sisters.
“I haven’t seen my family for a year, so it’s going to be really, really enjoyable that first time I get to see her and hang out with her.”
